by Sarah Broadmeadow-Thomas
(San Antonio, Texas, USA)
In 2007 I moved from my home country of England, UK, shown here in custom postage stamps, to be with my husband in San Antonio, Texas.
I have lived here ever since, and while I do love it here in the States, I miss my home in Britain more than anything.
The cold, snowy winters, the warm humid summers, and the beautiful colours of the autumn trees - all of those things I long for.
The photograph in the stamp is of a beautiful little town in Shropshire, England, called Ironbridge. I actually stood on the iron bridge itself to get this shot, and it was a chilly February day, and everything was covered in glistening white frost.
The light was fading into evening, and the little shops in the bottom of the photograph had all turned their lights on, giving the scene a Thomas Kinkade feel to it.
I took only one photograph, and was absolutely delighted at how warm and cozy the image turned out to be. Everything about the image screams 'England' - the place my heart will always return to, where my family live, and where I will one day go back to with my husband and family.
In addition to a personalized stamp, I have the photo on a 2011 calendar that I had made especially, and I will never grow tired of looking at this beautiful scene from home. It's a gorgeous, wintry contrast captured on serene custom postage stamps to the stifling heat outside my window here in Texas.
